StructureS . spaces . stories
I’m a self-taught photographer born in Yorkshire, England and currently based in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. I established Jon Wallis Photography in 2020 following a 15 year career in Architecture. My photography focuses on architecture and interiors, exhibitions, cityscapes and urban compositions.
Why I Do What I Do
I’ve always had a passion for photography and my background in architecture has given me a unique perspective when photographing my surroundings. I have lived and worked in a number of countries across the globe, exposing myself to a wide range of cultures, spaces and people in the process and I want to document these.
What I Do
I take photos of architecture and interiors for Architects, Developers and anyone else who wants to capture something. More broadly, I spend my time doing something I am passionate about - capturing and documenting the incredible variety of structures and spaces that surround us, the environment in which they sit and how the two interact with each other and with the people who use them. My photographs strive to reflect this variety and richness of experience. Most recently I have undertaken a personal project to document the wide variety of culturally and historically important buildings and structures found in Abu Dhabi.
How I Do What I Do
I have an unhealthy attention to detail! As such, I shoot and edit all my own projects. This ensures each photograph reaches my own high standards and portrays my own artistic style. No faking or distorting reality. I simply take photographs of what’s in front of me. The skill is in finding the right views and ensuring the environment is just right to show off the subject.
