No.0031 - HAMED CENTRE, ELECTRA Street
The end of summer is in sight, the weather is threatening to cool down, and I’ve been able to get back out on the streets to document more of Abu Dhabi’s unique architectural heritage!
To kick things off, this post focusses on the Hamed Centre. Completed in 1982, the Hamed Centre is on the city’s oldest shopping malls. It consists of two solid volumes, connected by walkways at the upper levels, and at the base by the retails spaces and entrance space.
The exterior has an interesting set of details, including concrete shading devices to the upper levels (front and back) and diamond-shaped windows (sides).
Now over forty years old, the building is still in relatively good shape, and is undergoing some internal improvements. It’s worth a visit if you’re a fan of gaming as there are a number of interesting independent units selling new and used consoles and games, and interesting collectibles.
