Al Nahyan Stadium (also known as Al Wahda Stadium) was constructed in 1995 and is the home of UAE Pro league club Al Wahda FC. The stadium has a capacity of almost 16,000 and has hosted group games of the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship and five games of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

You won’t find too many sports stadia smack-bang in the centre of a city these days! This one is one of the exceptions. It is flanked by Al Wahda Mall, the central Bus Terminal and a number of villas - a real contrast of scales and forms.

The stadium design itself incorporates huge concrete ‘fins’ that presumably provide structural support to the seating structures. The exaggerated geometry of the fins creates a playful visual as you move around the stadium. Light and shadow further accentuate the geometry as the quality of light changes through the day.
