Everyday Icons / Hiding In Plain Sight (Abu Dhabi) No.0001

Abu Dhabi no doubt has a gluttony of instantly recognizable architectural icons - Louvre Abu Dhabi, Etihad Towers, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque to name just a few. But for me, the real ‘soul’ of the city lies more in the ‘everyday’. As an architect and photographer I’m surprised daily by some of the interesting architecture hiding in plain sight. So I decided to document some of my favorites through the medium of photography.

I don’t just want to expose these buildings and their architectural quirks and nuances to a wider audience - I want to create a historical record. Inevitably, some of these buildings may not be standing for much longer and so the idea is that these photographs will at least provide an insight into some of the less high profile architectural heritage and history of this city.

I hope you enjoy discovering them as much as I do!

Everyday Icons / Hiding In Plain Sight (Abu Dhabi)
No.0001 - 736 Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed St / 90 Mohammed Bin Khalifa Street

I pass this particular building daily. It stands prominently at the intersection of Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed St and Mohammed Bin Khalifa Street and can be seen from afar in all directions. I love the way its facade catches the light and the playful nature of it's openings. Architect and date of construction unknown.
