Everyday Icons / Hiding In Plain Sight (Abu Dhabi) No.0004

The fourth post in my series ‘Everyday Icons / Hiding In Plain Sight (Abu Dhabi)’

Everyday Icons / Hiding In Plain Sight (Abu Dhabi)
No.0004 - Al Otaibi Residence, Hamdan Street, Abu Dhabi

The Al Otaibi Residence building is an example of one of the earliest urban residential typologies in Abu Dhabi city. Designed by Egyptian architect Galal Momen, and completed in the early 1970’s, the modernist building has stood frozen in time and has witnessed a huge transformation around it as the city developed both outwards and upwards. Today it sits alongside Foster + Partners’ World Trade Centre Abu Dhabi, the envelope design of which is said to take inspiration from this gem of a building.
